Middle School Overview

Middle school is a pivotal season in a student’s development. At Wilmington Christian Academy, our Middle School program is intentionally designed to strengthen academic foundations while nurturing spiritual growth and developing personal responsibility.

We are honored to partner with families during this important transitional time, guiding students as they mature socially, academically, and spiritually in preparation for high school and beyond.

Academic Foundations

WCA’s Middle School curriculum builds upon essential skills while introducing students to greater independence and critical thinking. Our program balances academic challenge with encouragement, helping students grow in confidence and responsibility.

Bible

Bible classes meet five days per week and are centered on a unified yearly theme. Sixth grade emphasizes Redemption, seventh grade focuses on the Life of Christ, and eighth grade explores major Old Testament themes. Through classroom instruction and discussion, students develop a deeper understanding of Scripture while learning to apply biblical truth to daily life.

Mathematics

In sixth grade, students focus on strengthening mathematical fundamentals. Teachers assess progress throughout the year to guide appropriate math placement in seventh grade. In seventh and eighth grades, students may advance into Pre-Algebra or Algebra I, based on ability, motivation, and maturity. The goal is to build both skill and confidence as students prepare for higher-level coursework.

Science

Science courses introduce students to the study of the physical and natural world through observation, experimentation, and critical evaluation of evidence. Instruction is presented from a biblical worldview, encouraging students to thoughtfully examine scientific theories while recognizing creation as the foundation for understanding our world.

Language Arts

Language Arts instruction develops strong written and verbal communication skills. Students refine grammar, composition, and analytical reading abilities while engaging with literature that challenges their thinking and reinforces a biblical worldview.

Social Studies

Social Studies courses examine historical events through the lens of Scripture. Students are encouraged to think critically about their role as citizens of both heaven and earth, learning how their actions can positively influence culture for both present impact and eternal significance.

Electives

Middle School electives provide opportunities for students to explore interests in fine arts and practical studies. These experiences broaden knowledge, encourage creativity, and strengthen social development.

Our students have been accepted to the following schools

Crew – Student Life

The CREW program is designed to build unity, leadership, and school spirit among middle school students. Through friendly competition and shared experiences, students develop teamwork skills while strengthening positive relationships with peers and faculty. CREW provides a structured and engaging environment where students grow in character and community.

Conduct

Good conduct is encouraged and reinforced through the CREW program. Students earn points for their crew by demonstrating responsibility, respect, and positive behavior, including receiving Patriot Awards. Points may also be deducted for poor conduct, helping students understand accountability and the importance of personal responsibility.

CCC (Crazed Crew Competition)

Crazed Crew Competition (CCC) days are scheduled monthly events where crews gather in the gym or on the field for a full class period of energetic, organized competition. These activities promote teamwork, healthy competition, and school spirit while giving students an opportunity to build camaraderie in a fun and supportive environment.

Chapel

Each Monday, middle school students participate in a dynamic chapel service featuring special speakers, worship, and engaging presentations. Chapel provides a meaningful time of spiritual encouragement, helping students grow in their faith and apply biblical principles to everyday life.

Community Service

Throughout the school year, students participate in several outreach initiatives, including both small and large-scale service projects within surrounding communities. These opportunities are designed to cultivate servant leadership and encourage students to demonstrate the love of Christ by helping those in need.

Crew Calls

Crew Calls are unannounced, high-energy challenges that add excitement to the school day. At any time, crews may be called out to participate in a quick competition in the gym or on the field. These surprise events promote unity, enthusiasm, and teamwork, with points awarded to the winning crew.

Class Trips & Experiential Learning

Each middle school grade participates in an annual class trip designed to reinforce classroom learning, strengthen friendships, and create meaningful, shared experiences. These carefully selected trips extend education beyond the classroom and help students connect academic concepts to real-world application.

Sixth grade students visit WonderWorks, an interactive science museum that combines hands-on exhibits with experiential learning. Through engaging activities in physics, space exploration, engineering, and technology, students apply classroom concepts in a fun and memorable environment. This trip encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving while building camaraderie among classmates.

7th Grade – Fort Caswell Marine Studies

Seventh graders participate in the Fort Caswell Marine Studies program, where they explore coastal ecosystems through guided field studies and hands-on scientific investigation. Students study marine life, environmental systems, and coastal geography while participating in team-based learning activities. This immersive experience reinforces science curriculum objectives while developing independence, teamwork, and leadership skills.

8th Grade – Jamestown Settlement & Colonial Williamsburg

Eighth grade students travel to Jamestown Settlement, the American Revolution Museum, and Colonial Williamsburg, bringing American history to life. Through interactive exhibits, historical reenactments, and immersive educational programs, students gain a deeper understanding of early American history and the foundations of our nation. This trip strengthens historical knowledge while encouraging students to reflect on the influence of faith, leadership, and civic responsibility throughout American history.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
