Wilmington Christian Academy, as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church, exists to assist parents in teaching students to glorify Jesus Christ in the pursuit of spiritual, academic, physical, and social excellence.

History of WCA

Established since 1969

Wilmington Christian Academy was founded in 1969 as a ministry of Grace Baptist Church. Since that time the Academy has grown to be the largest private school in southeastern North Carolina. Serving students in grades PreK2 – 12, WCA fulfills all requirements of the North Carolina Division of Non-Public Instruction and is a member of the American Association of Christian Schools and the North Carolina Christian School Association. The Academy is fully accredited by the North Carolina Christian School Association, The National Council for Private School Accreditation, Cognia and the North American Christian School Accrediting Agency.

Everything we teach is grounded in God’s truth. At WCA, a biblical worldview is woven throughout the curriculum, guiding students to see the world through the lens of Scripture and to understand their purpose in God’s plan.

Our Mission In Practice

We desire to lead our students to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and then assist them in conforming their lives to His image. The spiritual, social and academic atmosphere at WCA is designed to produce productive, intelligent young people who are prepared and willing to take the message of Jesus Christ into our society.

We consider our school as an extension of the home; therefore, it is imperative that parents create an atmosphere at home that is supportive of the goals and programs of the Academy. Our commitment to high standards is evident by our expectations regarding personal responsibility in dress, conduct, respect and academic achievement.

Our dedicated and qualified teaching staff works to give your child the academic, social and spiritual foundation needed to excel in life. Proper discipline mixed with compassion creates an environment that is conducive to learning and proper social development.

Our school is located on a large campus at the beginning of I-40. The complex consists of a large auditorium building, 2 educational buildings, Kids’ Campus/preschool, fine arts center, gymnasium, full-service cafeteria, art studio, 4 modular buildings, 2 athletic fields and 3 playgrounds. Our students enjoy educational technology that includes interactive white boards in the classrooms, an excellent 27-station main computer lab, multiple mobile laptop/Chromebook labs, 2 well-equipped science labs, a fitness center, special education resource center and a media center. Our Instruction

The Academy’s challenging, sequenced curriculum pursues a “back to basics” approach that is augmented with a variety of extras to provide the students with a well-rounded and accelerated educational experience. Our student’s academic achievement is assessed annually through nationally-standardized achievement testing programs.

The elementary curriculum strongly emphasizes the basic skills of reading and math augmented by studies in English, spelling, science, history, handwriting and health. Phonics-based reading instruction is given from pre-school through grade 2. Hands-on learning projects and practice drills are combined to enhance math instruction. Students are also taught art, music, physical education, Spanish, and library skills. Computer application training begins in kindergarten and is integrated with academic classroom instruction.

During the transition years of middle school, students experience classes and activities designed to solidify and increase basic academic skills, develop critical thinking skills, grow spiritually and serve others. Students enjoy learning in an atmosphere that fosters academic growth, promotes teamwork, encourages community service and builds school spirit!

Students in grades 9 through 12 follow one of three academic programs: general, college preparatory or honors. Advanced, AP and college-credit courses are available. The Academy’s high school diploma programs are designed to meet graduation requirements and prepare students for college admission. Academy students score above the national average on standardized achievement tests and college entrance exams, and graduates have been accepted into major Christian, private, and public colleges across the country. Due to their achievement, our students are frequently exempted from freshmen level college courses. Technology training is integrated with the curriculum, giving graduates a working knowledge of word processing, spread sheets, desktop publishing, Internet research, multi-media presentations and more.

Special education services are available in grades k-5 to 12 for students with learning disabilities.

Partnering with Families in Christian Education

Wilmington Christian Academy exists to come alongside families in the important work of educating and discipling their children. We believe the school and home work best together, united by shared values and a commitment to biblical truth.

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God. (II Tim. 3:16; I Pet. 1:21)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in the persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14)

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father and His personal return in power and glory. (Jn. 1:1-2; Phil. 2:5-8; Rom. 3:24-25, 8:34)

We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of lost and sinful men.(Eph. 1:7, 2:8-10; I Jn. 1:9)

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost; those that are saved will dwell in heaven for eternity, and those that are lost will suffer in hell for eternity.(Rev. 20:5-6, 12-13)

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Cor. 12:14-30; Rom. 12:4-8)

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. (Eph. 1:13-14; II Cor. 3:6)

Educational Goals

Spiritual:

"As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught . . .” Col. 3:16

Accept Jesus Christ as personal Savior, grow in the Christian faith, discern God’s will, and accomplish His will for the future.
Embrace biblical character and adopt a comprehensive biblical worldview, as the result of mentoring, engaging in personal study, and applying the Scriptures.
Understand and value the importance of a lifelong connection with fellow believers.
Impact our culture by reaching others with the gospel and mentoring them in the faith.

Academic:

Pursue with perseverance a rigorous, comprehensive, and relevant academic education rooted in biblical truth that will support advanced academic endeavors.
Develop competency in the utilization of oral, written, and technological communication skills and in their appropriate use.
Develop logical and critical reasoning skills necessary to analyze, synthesize, evaluate, and respond to the practical and philosophical challenges of society.
Embrace and foster a genuine desire for lifelong learning.

Physical:

Understand and adopt the principles and behaviors of a health conscious lifestyle.
Participate in variety of physical activities that contribute to lifelong wellness.
Determine to refrain from destructive physical behaviors as a result of understanding scriptural principles and accurate health information.

Social:

"Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.” Phil. 2:4

Treat others with respect, compassion, and civility.
Recognize opportunities to develop and demonstrate leadership in church, community, and civic organizations.
Demonstrate the love of Christ by compassionately serving others in the local community and around the world.
Exhibit characteristics of patriotism and good citizenship.
